I have a cast iron skillet made my lodge and I have been seasoning it and not using soap to clean it just like your supposed to but it cracked.

did you go from the stove top to real cold?, that would do it. Or it could just be a flaw in the manufacture

  • ZOOGLY says:

prolonged heat with out anything in it. or dipping a hot pan in cold water will make it crack.

Then the only explanation is that you hit my ex wife on the noggin with it. You should have known better.

    Age or excessive heat

    Drop it?

  • Glad H says:

Extreme heat for along period of time will cause it to crack

Did you let it cool thoroughly before rinsing it? If you take a scalding hot pan and immediately place it in the sink and run water into it, that could cause it to crack. It will also warp other pans (i.e. non-stick aluminum pans).
