We'd like to purchase a complete cast iron (Lodge) outdoor cookware set for a large family of 8 that does a lot of camping/outdoor adventures yet can't afford this themselves... I'm not sure exactly what they would need. With so many, would they need a couple of different sizes of skillet and/or dutch oven? Etc.. ??

US $94.98

Look on Ebay, Type in Wenezl 1887. There is a kit that includes:
1. DUTCH OVEN 6 qt. capacity, Heavy-duty bail handle with center notch, also trivet included.
2. SKILLET SET – 2 pieces, set includes 10-1/2″ and 12″ skillets. Right & Left puor spouts.
3. GRIDDLE, 20″ long x 9″ wide. Reversible – griddle side and broiler side. Double handles.
4. LID LIFTER, Durable lid/pot lifter handle.
Also, type in cast iron on ebay there are alot of other ideas.
Do a search for “cast iron cookware” and look for sets. If you buy each piece alone you may have to sell one of the kids to pay for them. There is a lot of junk on the market so be careful.
For sure a large dutch oven.I have one and the lid makes a great skillet to fry eggs and such in.A large skillet would be next.Lodge is a very good brand. It is kind of you to purchase them a set.Try Walmart or a camping store…
Oshman’s has a nice set just like you are describing. But, I would think if it’s a large family, the dutch oven would be the best place to start. My friend just bought one off of e-bay that was 8.5 quarts, with a flat bottom and wire handle…shipped to his door, it was only around $45 or less. It even had a lid that would hold coals in case you were cooking over an open fire, and it had a steamer basket with it also. We were really impressed b/c they shipped it immediately. The brand was some name that had to do with cajuns or bayou cooking or something, but it was plenty heavy and thick.
I just can’t help but think that with 8 family members, the larger, the better. You may want to see about investing in an even larger pot than 8.5 quarts.
look at a sporting goods store academy bass pro shops… they have cast iron cook sets cheap. i bought one at academy for about 59.99 plus tax..
10 inch skillet…a grill pan…and a dutch oven
