I seasoned my new cast iron pan as per the instructions - Apply Crisco and heat in a 350F oven for 2 hrs. I wiped clean the pan and tried cooking in it. The food tasted extremely bitter. Is this because the pan was new? Do I have to season it few more times to get rid of the bitter taste?

I used lots of crisco before cooking cornbread in my cast iron skillet but some stuck anyway. I'm not sure 100% how to take care of a cast iron skillet or if I can even use water to get the cornbread off! Does anyone know what I can do to get the skillet clean without damaging it?
