Have just been given several pieces of cast iron cookware. There is caked on grease on several of the pieces. Can i get it off in a self-cleaning oven without wrecking it? I know i would have to start over with the seasoning process.

YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE ANY KIND OF SOAP, EASY OFF ETC ON CAST IRON PANS!!!
WHEN YOU FINALLY COOK WITH THEM, THE TASTE WILL LEACH OFF INTO YOUR FOOD!!!
HOT Water, or just putting them into the oven for 30-60 mins. THEN re-season them!
Soak them in vinegar & water for a few hours & they’ll be like brand new 4c of water & 2Tbsp of vinegar
any thing with tomatoes simmer in pans.
soke in hot soapy water over night that should do the trick or you can place the pan in you oven at a low temp and as the grease heats up remove the pan and wash right away that also should work
Just soak it in hot water and soap.
If that doesn’t work try gasoline.
The easiest way to clean these are under the broiler! You need to clean these when it is cooler weather since it will heat up your kitchen or home. Put nothing on them, the broiler will pop off years of build-up.Be sure to let them cool down.
If you decide to buy more pans, always look for a number on the bottom, the ones from Asia seem to stick more.
If you cook in them the best way to clean is heat pan on stove, add 1 or 2 cups of water, scrape pan with spatula and then wash.
mean green
I find for burnt on things and stuff like this, take some dishwasher soap, sprinkle on the bottom, pour water and let it soak. That’ll get just about everything out. Then dry very well. It should be fine.
The outside of the cast iron tends to take care of itself. I scrub the affected areas with an SOS pad. If you scrub too deep, slather it with cooking oil. They’re pots &pans for goodness sake ! Scrub them to be as clean as you want them, & recure where needed.
build a fire out side and burn them. at least thats what my parents use to do
Either Grease Lightening or Orange Clean.
i was inherited my MIL’s skillet, it was at least 50 yrs old
the inside was beautiful but the outside had a “crust” of burnt
on stuff, I soaked it in really hot water several times then I took it outside and with a hammer and chisel I chipped away at the crust
now it looks as good as new
Use oil and rub it off.
Try Easy Off. Let it sit on for a while then scrub.

How long do i leave it in the broiler
