		<description>Hoecakes are cornmeal-based pancakes, usually fried on the flat end of a hoe over a fire, w/ nothing more than lard, cornmeal, hot water, and a little salt.  Nowadays, they are called &quot;hot water cornbread&quot; and are like little pancakes, cooked in a cast iron skillet coated w/ a bit of oil.
I think you&#039;d better just search for &quot;biscuit&quot; rather than hoecake.  What your mom made was really not a hoecake, even though that&#039;s what she called it.</description>
