How Do You Season A Cast Iron Skillet With A Wooden Handle?

Hmmm . If u can take the handle off try rubbing some grease inside of the pan and put it in the oven upside down for about a hour. It seems to work for me.

Use Crisco grease not oil put in the skillet.Put in a nice pinch of salt. Take paper towel and rub very generous amount of grease on inside all around skillet .Take the lid and rub the inside and the outside of the lid.Heat skillet on medium high heat until skillet is very hot .Then let it sit.Do not wash skillet with water. After each use ,wipe clean with cloth.Makes wonderful and cooks like no other.

  • The trick to old or new cast iron is to make sure it is completely clean, if you need to scrub with soap and water do it. Once it is clean put it on the stove on high with a generous plop of vegetable oil once it starts to smoke pull it off of the burner and take a wad of paper towels–careful not to burn yourself–and wipe it out and the outside and it is good to go for the next time. Been doing this for years and it works fine—very old rusted cast iron can be renewed in the oven — not necessary with something not covered with rust.

i seasoned a 16qt oven over a fire for an hour. i used a small amount of pure vegetable oil. a very light coat of oil inside and outside then turn upside down. after that is done let it cool and cooking something really greasey or oily in it. i fried potatoes in oil in it. to clean up use hot water and no soap then heat it slightly and add a small amount of oil to it again. look up lodge cast iron up on the web will also help with the seasoning process

You can use a gas stove or an outside burner to keep from burning the wood handle. While most people would season cast iron by putting it into an open fire or oven, one with a wooden handle would surely burn.

If it is old first wash it with a little soap and water. Then rub in cooking oil. Heat it on the stove. Cook whatever in it and when finished just wipe it out with paper towels and put away until you use it again, of course the next time you use it you don;t have to wash it with soap and water.
